Rep. Richard N. Koon, A 55th Speakership Candidate Tangled with Multiple Citizenship

Monrovia, Liberia- Biography has shown that On July 27, 1970, Richard Nagbe Koon was born in Lagos, Nigeria, to a Liberian father and a Nigerian mother. Koon was brought up by his mother, a Nigerian.

Despite having grown up in both Monrovia and Lagos, Koon relocated to Monrovia permanently in 1992 due to his parents’ divorce. But until 2008, he was faithful to Nigeria. Koon also had passports from Liberia and Nigeria. It should be mentioned that, as a citizen of Nigeria, he attended Lagos States Polytechnic and graduated in 1992 with an associate’s degree in accounting.

The legitimacy of Koon’s carrying a Liberian passport after the age of 23, when he had not yet attained full citizenship in that country, is a topic of discussion among attorneys and citizenship experts. Legal experts have also contended that Koon had to have naturalized in Liberia and sworn loyalty because he retained his Nigerian citizenship until the age of 38.

It is also believed that Koon is a US citizen, according to other breaking reports. This article has also verified the material and found that Koon relocated to the United States in 2008, residing in South Dakota. He lived and worked in South Dakota, therefore any doubts regarding his residency status are disregarded.

Additionally, evidence in our hands shows that he had gotten US citizenship (noting that Koon has his family in the US and is a regular traveler to the US).

Despite the controversy over his multiple Citizenship, Representative Koon who represents District number 11 Montserrado County, is vowing for Speakership in the 55th legislature, Something that needs to claim the attention of all legal luminaries so as to save guide the constitutional rules?
