Northern Liberia – In a dramatic turn of events, over 2,500 residents of Yegbedu Town in Foya District have been forced to evacuate their homes following reports of earth vibrations affecting the area. Located on a hill outside Foya City in Lofa County, Yegbedu is home to former Liberian Defense Minister Brownie J. Samukai.
On July 26 and again early this morning, August 13, residents reported significant vibrations that have left the community in confusion. Town Chief Johnson Boie revealed that the vibrations occurred four times, prompting an urgent evacuation as residents fled with their belongings.
Chief Boie noted that the disturbances intensified between 11 PM and 6 AM, causing considerable instability. While he speculated that soil movement might be causing the issue, he expressed uncertainty about the ongoing situation.
Currently, displaced citizens are seeking refuge in neighboring towns and villages. In response to the crisis, Acting Commissioner of Foya District, Mr. Tamba D. Flomo, has issued an SOS call for immediate assistance from county stakeholders and the National Disaster Management Agency.
