Monrovia – The Ministry of Justice has dismissed social media claims linking the official vehicle of Justice Minister Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh to an alleged gift from drug cartels, calling the allegations “false and unsupported.”
In a statement released Saturday, the Ministry said it was “taken aback” by posts from activist Martin K. N. Kollie. Kollie alleged that the Minister’s vehicle, government plate 0-13, was a gift funneled through the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police.
The Ministry rejected the claim outright.
According to the statement, the government made it a priority to improve mobility for law enforcement after taking office. To do this, the Ministry formally requested a vehicle from the LNP on November 10, 2025.
The LNP then assigned a white Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, marked GSA-LNP-03-14. The Ministry said the vehicle is part of a fleet of vehicles worth 1.5 million US dollars procured by the Government from Dutch Health BV for the Liberia National Police.
“The vehicle is government property, purchased with government funds, and assigned through an agency under the Ministry,” the statement said. “It was not a gift from a drug cartel, private individual, or the Inspector General, and is used solely for official duties.”
The Ministry added that it is not unusual for vehicles from the Liberia National Police to be assigned within the Ministry. It urged the public not to treat social media posts as fact without verification.
“We will not be distracted by unsubstantiated allegations,” the release stated. “Our focus remains on fighting illicit drugs in Liberia.”
The Ministry’s response comes amid growing debate online over alleged links between public officials and drug trafficking in Liberia.
