Grand Bassa Senator Urges Communication Amidst Legislative Protests

Monrovia, Liberia–In the midst of ongoing protests by legislative staffers at the Capitol grounds, Grand Bassa County Senator Nylonbee Kanga Lawrence attributes the unrest to a lack of communication between lawmakers and their support staff. The senator, who is also vying for the Pro-Tempore position in the Liberian Senate, emphasized that the absence of timely communication has left both senators and staffers without essential benefits, including gas slips, for over five months.

Senator Lawrence assured the agitated Senate staffers that their outstanding payments, including extra sitting allowances, would be addressed starting this Friday. Concerned about the potential damage to the country’s image, especially in the wake of a recent election, the Liberty Party’s embattled Political Leader urged for a swift resolution to avoid negative perceptions.

Expressing a commitment to significant reforms, Senator Lawrence specifically highlighted plans for a comprehensive audit of the 55th National Legislature. Despite her call for unity and communication, she criticized President Weah’s decision to recall the Legislature for an extra session, arguing that there was no genuine emergency warranting such action.

As tensions persist at the heart of Liberia’s government, the Grand Bassa Senator aims to bridge the communication gap and instigate essential reforms to restore order and transparency within the Liberian Senate.
