Five Liberian nationals touched down at Roberts International Airport on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, after being deported by the United States. The group was received on arrival by officers of the Liberia Immigration Service, LIS, and handed over for processing under Liberian law.
According to the LIS, the deportees had all completed US prison sentences before being removed. Their offenses included aggravated felony, alien smuggling, immigration violations, drug possession, and conspiracy to commit fraud. US authorities say the removals are part of routine enforcement against foreign nationals convicted of crimes abroad.
The US government has been stepping up deportations of non-citizens with criminal records once they finish jail time. Wednesday’s flight is the latest batch to return to Liberia under that policy. American officials maintain the goal is to protect public safety and uphold immigration law.
LIS officials confirmed the five were formally received and will go through standard immigration procedures in Liberia. The service did not disclose the names, ages, or home counties of the returnees, citing privacy protocol
For the five men, the flight ends years in the US prison system and starts a new chapter back in Liberia. For authorities on both sides, it’s a reminder that criminal convictions overseas can mean a one-way ticket home.
