Monrovia–A Kenyan lawyer and activist Prof. Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba is urging Liberian Judges to display integrity without fear and favor in the discharge of their duties.
The Former director of the Kenya School of Law who also served as director of Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission Asserted that the judiciary must be independent in discharge of their functions, an act he said undermines the justice system across the country.
Speaking at the African Regional Group Meeting and international conference of international Association of Judges, under the Theme the Judiciary in contemporary Times: Dispensing Justice in the New information on Wednesday May, 8 2024 at the Ellen Sirleaf Johnson Ministerial complex in Congo Town, Professor Olumba revailed that every Judicial officials should make decisions in the best interest of the citizens.
“There will always be political interference in the judiciary system from politician but you must stand for the truth and maintain the integrity within the judiciary system” he noted, urging them to stop complaining about the interference from politician.
For his part the President of the Liberia National Bar Association Cllr, Sylvester Rennie has described low budgetary support toward the judiciary system as shame. The LNBA President claimed that some lines ministries and Agencies received more budgetary allotment than the Judiciary. He call on the Executive to seek the welfare of Judges, Associates Justices onward to the supreme court, noting that the the role of these players are equivalent to Vice President and Senators.
Cllr. Rennie at the same time underscored the need for robust training for judiciary workers meant to enhance their knowledge in understanding the sector approximately.
