Monrovia, Liberia – President George Weah, accompanied by First Lady Clar Marie Weah and key government officials, has left Liberia for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to attend the Climate Conference. The Liberian leader, slated to address the global stage on Saturday, will join world leaders, business executives, and civil society representatives from nearly two hundred countries. The conference, set to begin on November 30, 2023, and conclude on December 12, 2023, focuses on accelerating the transition to a clean-energy future.
President Weah’s delegation includes Defense Minister Daniel K. Ziakahn, Economic Advisor Emmanuel Shaw, and the Executive Director of the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) Pepci Quiwu Yeke, among others. Delegates at the conference will delve into data highlighting corporate progress toward global climate goals, transition finance pathways, biodiversity, the phase-out of coal-fired power, greening private assets, the evolution of carbon markets, and the emergence of resilience as a theme for investment.
The strategic gathering emphasizes the importance of collective action to combat climate change and underscores the critical role of finance in the low-carbon transition. Organizers hope the outcomes from the conference will guide investors and capital markets in supporting climate commitments with tangible actions. President Weah, having previously highlighted the need for global collective efforts and action at the same conference last year, is expected to reiterate these points with statistical backing, reinforcing the urgency of addressing climate challenges on a global scale.
