Bopolu, Gbarpolu – In an effort to swiftly tackle the alarming mineral exploitation within the mining sector in the county Gbarpolu County Superintendent Sam K. Zinnah, has called for a collective efforts from Mines and Energy (MME), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Ministry of Labour (MOL), National Security Agency (NSA) Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), including others government agencies responsible for the sector.
“I need all those government agencies to go as a joint team with me, because I don’t have the authority to authorize violation of any law” he Asserted.
In a telephone Interview with The People Newspaper Sup. Sam expressed that despite his quest to end illegal mining, there’s need to adhere to the rule of law which also protects foreigners. He referred the recent action of dismissed employees of the labour ministry as a scenario of violation that should be avoided.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Sam K. Zinnah who in May 2024 shut down the Lead Bond Mining Company, a Chinese mining entity operating in Bopolu District over illicit mining, has warned against dubious mining activities in his region, maintaining that legitimate business in the county should enable revenue generation for government and not individual benefits.
Just as other counties in the country, Gbarpolu is rich in minerals, but suffers immense exploitations, leaving inhabitants of the county in abject poverty.
