Former Auditor General John Morlu urges Extensive Audit at LRA

Monrovia, Liberia- Former Auditor General of Liberia John Morlu II is calling on the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission to launch an extensive investigation at the Liberia Revenue Authority ranging from Janitor to top officials including Late Commissioner Thomas Doe Nah.

The former Auditor in his recent write up highlighted that the wealthiest people in Liberia are currently employed by the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), and that reports indicate significant yearly revenue losses. “Some claim the loss could be closer to $900 million, although Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and the Acting LRA boss claim a $300 million loss” he furthered.

“Disturbingly, former finance ministers align on Liberia losing vast amounts, with estimations ranging from $2.5 billion to an alarming $4 billion. The consensus is that the current budget of about $625 million is a gross understatement benefiting a select few.” he added. He pointed out the need for the conduct of illegitimate money and lifestyle investigations, Asset Declarations covering LRA, all government accountants, finance workers, members of the PPCC, procurement directors, internal and external auditors for the government as a whole regardless of personal connection.

As part of his recommendation to the LACC, he name Montserrado district four representative Michael Thomas as an individual who should undergo SPECIFIC INQUIRY regarding his “illicit wealth and lifestyle”. The former Auditor reference https://fb.watch/ppvPOTZHp2/?mibextid=UyTHkb the link for people who may term the future action as a “witch hunt”.
