Monrovia, Liberia- In a shocking turn of events, the vehicle belonging to Mr. Charles Brown, Chairman of the Senate Staffer Association and spokesperson for the ongoing protest at the Capitol Building, was set ablaze by unknown individuals. The incident occurred on Monday, January 8, 2023, as Mr. Brown was targeted while parked at his residence. Describing the attack, he recounted that unidentified assailants on a motorcycle threw a petrol bomb at his vehicle, leaving it engulfed in flames.

Speaking on Spoon Talk shortly after the incident, Mr. Brown linked the attack to alleged threats he had received from Senator Saah Joseph of Montserrado County and Representative Frank Saah Foko, also from Montserrado County District Number Nine. Despite the attack, Mr. Brown affirmed his commitment to sustaining the ongoing protest, demanding rightful benefits for Senate staffers, including extra session allowances, insurance coverage, and gasoline benefits.
Undeterred by the assault on his vehicle, Mr. Brown vowed to lead the staffers in continuing their protest at the Capitol, preventing senators from entering the facility. He further revealed that a cross-section of Liberians has pledged to join the Senate staffers on the fifth day of the protest. The demonstration aims to obstruct President George Weah’s nominations of Samora Wolokollie as Liberia Revenue Authority Commissioner General and Cllr. Frank Musa Dean Jr. as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the 54th National Legislature adjourned its session without the confirmation hearings for the nominated government officials.
