Monrovia, Liberia – May 5, 2025 — A brewing dispute over the use of the name WE THE PEOPLE has taken center stage following a strongly worded statement from the group’s Executive Committee distancing itself from any protest activities allegedly linked to its identity.
In a press release issued on May 4, WE THE PEOPLE categorically denied involvement in any planned protest said to be organized by Mr. Mulbah K. Morlu, Chairman of the STAND movement. The Committee declared that it has no affiliation with the coordination or promotion of any such demonstration and warned the public not to be misled by unauthorized claims.
“We must firmly address the unauthorized use of our name,” the statement read, emphasizing that WE THE PEOPLE is an independent organization with its own leadership, mission, and channels of communication.
The release called on Mr. Morlu to refrain from using the name in any communications or mobilization efforts, advising him to operate under his own platform. It further urged the public to avoid any business, coordination, or collaboration with Mr. Morlu under the banner of WE THE PEOPLE, describing such actions as “unauthorized and misleading.”
This clarification follows earlier public communications that appeared to associate Mr. Morlu and others with the group, including the appointment of a spokesman under its name. The Executive Committee made it clear that any future statements or actions by WE THE PEOPLE will be made directly and officially.
The internal conflict underscores the importance of clarity in civic engagement, particularly when public messaging involves established names or organizations. Observers note that such disputes can create confusion and undermine public trust in genuine advocacy efforts.
As the situation unfolds, the group has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and warned against the misuse of its identity for purposes it has not endorsed.
