US Embassy in Monrovia Issues Urgent Warning and Prepares for Emergencies

*Monrovia, Liberia –* In a proactive move, the United States Embassy in Liberia has issued an urgent warning to all U.S. mission members and staff employees, urging them to make thorough preparations for potential emergency situations. The Regional Security Office released a press statement on September 20, 2023, emphasizing the importance of readiness for unforeseen events, which includes ensuring that staff members have an ample supply of essential items at home.

The advisory recommends that employees maintain a 72-hour emergency kit and a “go-bag” in the event of necessary relocation. Among the highlighted items crucial for emergency preparedness are water, medications, first aid supplies, flashlights with batteries, multi-tools, important documents, cash, clothing, and blankets. These materials are intended for temporary use in case of any unforeseen emergency, as outlined in the Embassy’s release.

The statement from the RSO clarifies that this advisory is a routine management notice, common across embassies worldwide, aimed at helping mission personnel prepare in advance for emergencies. Additionally, this alert coincides with the U.S. National Preparedness Month, observed every September, underscoring the Embassy’s commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of its staff members in Liberia.
