Monrovia, Liberia- Mr. Anthony F. Williams a Former Students leader at the State run University of Liberia and winner of Maryland County District #2, Anthony F. Williams, has described the Supreme Court of Liberia decision to over turned his victory against former Speaker Bhofal Chambers as undemocratic and as an infringement on the rights and decision of the people of Pleebo Sodokan District.
Three months ago, Liberia’s elections commission declared Anthony Williams winner over then speaker of the House of Representatives, Bhofal Chambers, in Pleebo Sodoken District #2.
Chambers appealed to the Supreme Court citing several discrepancies, including violence by the traditional people who he says brought the “country devil” to town district.
The National Election Commission Wednesday janunary 17, declared champaign opened in the rerun elections in old Sodokan, Maryland County District #2 and the election will be conducted on 25th , 2024
Williams noted that while he is not too prepared financially, he and his supporters are psychologically ready to take former House Speaker despite the numerous challenges associated with rerun couples with finances
The Supreme Court of Liberia has ordered a rerun in two polling places one and two in old Sodokan as a result of what it term as elections violent during the October 10th, 2023 general and Presidential elections.
The Supreme Court of Liberia has ordered the National Elections Commission to conduct a rerun of the October 10, 2023, representative election in two polling places only, Precinct Code #27020 in Old Sodokan, District Number Two, Maryland County.
The Supreme Court noted that the decision of the National Elections Commission to have dismissed Chambers’s complains, without considering issues raised about violence by traditional people during the polling process was unfair.
Even though, the Supreme Court noted that the election was not conducted for District Number Two Maryland County, alone, but for the Republic of Liberia and voters were to vote for all the candidates and various positions, the court said there were nine candidates and each political party would have had poll watchers, Chambers failed to produce any of these poll watchers to prove his claims of ballot stuffing.
However, the court noted that the threat of violence by traditional people to scare away voters had a severe threat on the district elections, especially at the two polling places named, in Old Sodokan, since there were narrow margins.
Recently, Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Youth ruled that the NEC should conduct a rerun at two polling places only, polling places number one and two of Polling Precinct Code: 27020, in Old Pleebo Sodokan District.
According to Justice Youh, the rerun should be conducted under a straight security presence.
At the same time, the Supreme Court has also ordered the NEC to set aside the results from other polling places, while the rerun is being conducted at the two polling places.
Old Sodokan is reportedly a stronghold of Mr. Anthony Willams, Chambers’s major contender in the Representative race of Maryland County District Number Two.
The Former Students leader expressed shocks over the Supreme Court of Liberia decision about its ruling on grounds that how can out-going President George M. Weah won at that same polling places one and two with the highest votes and he also flogged Bohfal Chambers at that same polling place and it never turned the entire results ?.
Anthony F. Williams expressed confident that he will beat Bohfal Chambers face down in the rerun in old Sodokan, Maryland County District #2
