Congo Town, Monrovia – Three opposition parties—the National Patriotic Party (NPP), People’s Unification Party (PUP), and Liberia People’s Democratic Party (LPDP)—have jointly condemned what they describe as threatening and inflammatory statements from former Vice President Joel Howard Taylor and other political figures, amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the House of Representatives.

The parties expressed concern that such rhetoric risks undermining Liberia’s hard-won peace and stability, particularly at a time when the country continues to recover from the scars of a brutal 14-year civil war.

Speaking during a press conference at LPDP headquarters in Congo Town, L. Moses Kiyean Kwehai of the People’s Unification Party called on all political actors to prioritize peaceful negotiation over provocative threats. He emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through lawful and democratic means rather than confrontation or incitement.

Kwehai warned that any attempt to destabilize the country would be met with resistance from those committed to upholding national peace and unity. He also urged Liberians to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring the public that opposition parties are working alongside other stakeholders to maintain peace and prevent escalation.

Addressing the ongoing impasse in the House of Representatives, Kwehai called on President Joseph Boakai to take the lead in facilitating a national dialogue aimed at resolving the leadership stalemate. He emphasized the need for the inclusion of political parties, civil society, the religious community, and traditional leaders in the effort to bring about a peaceful and lasting resolution.

The statement from the three parties marks a firm stance against political threats and reaffirms their commitment to safeguarding the nation’s stability. Their message also signals a broader call for responsible political discourse and collaborative conflict resolution at a time of increasing political tension.
