Office of President-Elect Boakai Trashes Report of bribing 33 Law makers in Upcoming Speakership Elections

Monrovia, Liberia– Allegation that Boakai pays 33 lawmakers to vote for Rep. Richard Koon as Speaker has been rejected by the office of the president-elect; Mo Ali calls the claim untrue.

The media’s claim that MPs who met with President-elect Joseph Boakai were bought off to support Representative Richard Koon as Speaker of the 55th legislature has been refuted by the Boakai administration.

For the first time since the elections, the president-elect and about thirty-three veteran and newly elected lawmakers convened on Tuesday.

Following the meeting, there were reports that each person who attended the meeting received 25,000 to vote for Rep Koon in the Hiuse Speaker election on Monday January 15.

In response to the claim, UP executive Mo Ali said no money was offered any of the lawmakers and said President-elect Boakai will not manipulate the legislative process.
There were rumors circulated after the conference that each attendee had been given $25,000 to vote for Representative Koon on Monday, January 15 in the House Speaker election.

UP executive Mo Ali refuted the claim, saying that none of the lawmakers received any financial inducement and that President-elect Boakai would not rig the parliamentary process.
