NSA Assistant Director for Operations Wolo Dismissed Over Controversial Tribute at PYJ Funeral

Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., has dismissed Mr. Nesco Aleo Wolo of his duties as Assistant Director for Operations at the National Security Agency (NSA).

The announcement, made on January 22, 2025, comes after another letter dated January 20, 2025, was issued from Hon. Patrick P. Doe, Deputy Director for Administration at the NSA, formally requesting Mr. Wolo to return all agency properties in his possession, including his vehicle, badge, weapon, and communication equipment.

The letter also demanded an explanation for his decision to deliver a tribute on behalf of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) during the funeral services of the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson.

Yet the president in an official statement released by the Executive Mansion, indicated that the decision was taken for “administrative reasons.” failing to clearly state the specific circumstances surrounding the dismissal.

The President in his statement instead assures the public of his unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability across all sectors of government, particularly within the nation’s security institutions,” the statement read.

As one of the most critical roles in the NSA, the Assistant Director for Operations is responsible for overseeing key operational strategies and ensuring the security of the nation.

The office of the commander in chief believe that the sudden removal of Mr. Wolo signals President Boakai’s determination to implement necessary changes to uphold the integrity and efficiency of Liberia’s security sector.
