Monrovia, Liberia – Hon. J. Marvin Cole, Representative of District #3 in Bong County, has tendered his resignation from the National Patriotic Party (NPP). His decision, detailed in an official letter addressed to former Vice President Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, cites a series of grievances against the party’s leadership under Chairman George Sylvester Mulbah.
In his resignation letter, Hon. Cole accused the chairman and other senior members of the party of violating the party’s bylaws, including imposing an “illegal suspension” on him without granting him the opportunity to defend himself. He also lamented the party’s alleged role in undermining democratic principles by contributing to the legislative impasse currently gripping the country.
“Madam Standard Bearer, my resignation is predicated upon the stance taken by the national chairman… and some executive members of the party to endorse my illegal suspension… not giving me the opportunity to be heard,” wrote Hon. Cole.
Furthermore, Cole emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding Liberia’s democratic values, which he believes are being eroded under the current NPP leadership. He declared his decision to leave the party after consulting with family, friends, and political allies, adding that the leadership under Mulbah “can no longer protect and defend the constitution for the governance and happiness of the people.”
Despite his grievances, Hon. Cole expressed gratitude to the NPP for its support over the years, highlighting his success in securing two legislative terms under the party’s ticket.
This resignation comes at a critical time for the NPP as it faces mounting challenges both internally and within its coalition with the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC). The move is likely to deepen tensions within the party, raising questions about its stability ahead of future elections.
