Margibi County, Liberia – The commissioning of the Ma Juah Memorial Health Center marks a groundbreaking achievement in Liberia’s healthcare sector, promising to deliver hope, accessibility, and enhanced medical services to thousands of citizens. Situated in Margibi County, this 100-bed facility is a powerful symbol of innovation, determination, and collaboration, raising the bar for healthcare delivery across the nation.

During the official walkthrough and commissioning program, Ambassador Charles Sleyon, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the health center, expressed immense pride and gratitude for the milestone. He emphasized that the center represents far more than just infrastructure and equipment—it embodies hope and the promise of a healthier future for Liberia. “This facility stands as a testament to what determination, collaboration, and a shared vision can achieve. It’s not just walls and equipment; it’s the hope of a mother seeking care for her child, the relief of an elderly patient in need of life-saving treatment, and the dream of a healthier Liberia coming to life,” he said.

The Ma Juah Memorial Health Center is equipped to provide comprehensive medical care, ranging from primary health services to advanced treatments. With state-of-the-art facilities and a committed team of healthcare professionals, the center aims to address some of the most critical gaps in Liberia’s healthcare system. Despite this significant progress, Ambassador Sleyon highlighted several pressing challenges that need immediate attention.

He stressed the urgent need for additional medical equipment to meet growing patient demands. “Imagine the frustration of a doctor unable to diagnose or treat a patient due to a lack of resources,” he explained. Poor road infrastructure was also identified as a major obstacle, hindering access for patients, staff, and emergency vehicles. “The road leading to this facility is a challenge in itself. For many, the journey to seek care becomes a matter of life and death. Improving these roads is not just about convenience; it’s about saving lives,” he emphasized.

Transportation remains another critical issue. Ambassador Sleyon pointed out that many patients travel long distances, often on foot, to reach the health center. He called for support in acquiring a bus to transport patients and staff, which would extend the center’s reach to underserved communities. Reliable electricity is another priority, as frequent power outages disrupt essential operations such as surgeries and the storage of life-saving medicines. “A stable electricity source is not a luxury; it is a necessity for providing quality care,” he stressed, appealing to the Liberia Electricity Corporation for consistent power supply.

Ambassador Sleyon urged stakeholders to see the health center’s full potential—a place where no patient is turned away, where every life is valued, and where hope is restored. He emphasized that while the health center represents progress, partnerships, support, and advocacy are essential to realize its vision.

The Ma Juah Memorial Health Center stands as a beacon of transformation, addressing long-standing healthcare challenges in Liberia. Its impact is expected to extend far beyond Margibi County, offering a lifeline to underserved communities nationwide. Ambassador Sleyon’s vision for the center is clear: to create a world-class facility that saves lives and inspires hope for a brighter future in Liberia. With collective effort and the right investments, the Ma Juah Memorial Health Center is set to redefine healthcare standards in the country and beyond.
