Liberia: Samuel P. Jackson Eager Elderly Statesman

Liberia: Samuel P. Jackson Eager Elderly Statesman

Awaiting the Departure of the Rescue Train? From Which Track Number? Which Station? Who’s Driving the Train?

Boakai people. My honest position. No doubt Joe Boakai is a man with a good character. An outstanding human being. But I’m getting worried as to his ability to grapple with the myriad of challenges facing Liberia.

It’s not too early to determine if Mr. Boakais has the development philosophy, energy, personnel and can attract the resources necessary to meet up with the immediate challenges facing us as a nation. We need to feel him. He has over 50 years in the governance space. With that kind of experience he should be making some clear policy statements by now!

What needs to be fixed? Public safety? The economy? Impunity? Corruption? Education? Health? Infrastructure ? Agriculture? Energy? What public policies are being crafted?

What is or will be Boakai’s signature project? Aspirational goals even if they are not immediately achievable?

Tolbert had matts to mattresses. Put his energy into non alignment. Doe had no vision but was associated with improving conditions for the military. Received over 500 million in US aid for that.

Taylor had vision 2024. Created CBL. NOCAL. Gender Ministry. Minerals and Mining Law of 2000. Revenue code of 2000. Right from the jump we saw Taylor’s development philosophy.

Ellen started off with the 150 days action plan running out of the gates. Then the interim poverty reduction strategy ( iPRS) then the poverty Reduction strategy (PRS) and the agenda for transformation. Liberia Rising.

Weah had the PAPD pro poor policies. Pro poor was the identity of his government.

So far and it may be early but Boakai and his team are not giving us even the contours of his development philosophy. The meat can come later but I am waiting for the Rescue Train to leave the station. From the looks of things it seems the crew is still being assembled.

And so it goes.
