Liberia: CDC-COP Urges CDC Legislators to Boycott President-Elect’s Inauguration; Cites Unity Party’s alleged Plan to Removed Speaker Koffa as a Reason

Monrovia, Liberia- Coalition for Democratic Change-Council of Patriots has urged members of the 55th legislature elected on the CDC ticket to boycott President-Elect Amb. Joseph Boakai’s January 22, 2024 inauguration.

Addressing a press conference at the Center for the Exchange of Intellectual Opinions(CEIO) in Monrovia, the Chairman of the organization Mr. Ben Emmanuel Togba asserted that the action for CDC lawmakers to abandon the upcoming inauguration is in response to an alleged plan by the incoming Unity Party government to unseat the current Speaker of the House of Representative J. Fonati Koffa who is also a strong member of the CDC.

Chairman Togba alleged that the Unity Party is contemplating on removing Rep. Koffa as Speaker of the house three months after inauguration, on grounds that he Koffa holds an American citizenship.

The group at the same time issued a 48hrs ultimatum to Margibi Sanctioned Senator Nathaniel McGill to reject his current post as Chair on Education. According to them, the Present Senate Pro-Tempore has no moral to lead the House of Senate and as such, McGill who represents the interest of the Coalition for Democratic Change should resign under her regime.

“We faithfully believe that your name as Chair on Education at the Liberian Senate under a mare tea sealer is a typographical error.”

The CDC Council of Patriots on the other hand lauded Montserrado County Senator Saa H. Joseph, Bill Twehway of River Cess and others for acting in the interest of their party.

Lamenting on the US Sanctions of government officials, the Organization chair mentioned that the ideas by the United States Treasury Department are intended to reduce the influence of CDC political actors, referencing the Visa Restriction on Liberia Finance Minister’s children.
