LEC Cracks Down on Unauthorized Logo Use

Monrovia, Liberia –The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced that its corporate logo is now officially trademarked. As of May 6, 2025, the logo is legally protected under Liberian law through the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO), giving LEC full ownership and exclusive rights to control how and where it is used.

LEC is warning the public that anyone using the logo without permission—including on social media, websites, promotional items, or marketing materials—is breaking the law. This act violates Liberia’s Trademark Act, as well as international agreements like the TRIPS Agreement and the Paris Convention. Offenders could face serious consequences, including fines and jail time.

To avoid legal trouble, individuals and businesses must stop using the LEC logo immediately unless they have been granted official approval. Those who wish to use the logo for events, partnerships, or other legitimate reasons must send a written request to LEC’s Legal Services Department.

LEC will review all requests carefully and issue formal licenses to approved users. The Corporation encourages the public to respect its brand rights and contact its Public Affairs team or visit www.lecliberia.com for more information.
