Bomi Co., Liberia – The National Commission on Disabilities (NCD) and the Alliance on Disabilities in Liberia have successfully held the Western Regional Cluster Consultation on the proposed Disability Bill in Bomi County.
The consultation, supported by World Hope International and AIFO Liberia, brought together 29 participants from Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu Counties.
Participants included NCD County Coordinators, representatives of the superintendents of the three counties, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the Liberia National Association of the Deaf (LNAD), the Bong Intellectual and Developmental Organization (BIDO), the National Union of Organizations of the Disabled (NUOD), G77, the Christian Association of the Blind (CAB), civil society organizations, religious leaders, and a representative from Radio Bomi.
The Campaigners Against Misinformation and Disinformation in Liberia (CAMDL), a member of the Alliance on Disability in Liberia, served on the coordination team for the regional consultations and the high-level national stakeholder validation.
The session provided a platform for stakeholders to review the draft Disability Bill and submit recommendations based on the lived experiences and realities of persons with disabilities in their respective counties.
Organizers said the diversity of voices at the consultation underscores a key principle: legislation affecting persons with disabilities must be informed by the people and communities it is intended to serve.
The NCD and its partners extended appreciation to all participants for their contributions, and to AIFO Liberia and World Hope International for providing financial support for the consultation.
The Bomi consultation marks a significant step in the nationwide consultative process toward enacting a stronger, rights-based Disability Bill that reflects the voices and aspirations of persons with disabilities across Liberia.
