Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) is extending encouragement to government officials who have not yet complied with the institution’s assets declaration mandate, despite the expiration of the deadline on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Vice Executive Chairperson Ernest Hughes conveyed this message in a release on December 14, 2023, emphasizing that the opportunity to declare assets is still open for officials who are currently away on official business.
Acknowledging the constraints faced by officials abroad, the LACC clarified that this allowance is not an extension of the deadline but rather an opportunity for those on official duties to comply promptly upon their return. The Commission is actively compiling a comprehensive list categorizing government officials into compliant and non-compliant groups, encompassing Ministries, Autonomous Agencies, Commissions, the Judiciary, Legislature branches, and the Executive branch of government.
The LACC underscores the importance of adherence to the assets declaration mandate, a vital component of the Commission’s efforts to combat corruption. As the list of compliant and non-compliant officials is set to be published, the LACC continues to emphasize transparency and accountability in the governance process.
