Monrovia, Liberia – The Joint Security in Liberia has taken decisive action by deploying its Special Investigation Team on Election Violence for the 2023 General and Presidential Elections to investigate recent clashes in Foya, Lofa County. These clashes, which occurred on the previous day, are reported to have involved individuals believed to be supporters of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and the Unity Party (UP). In a press release issued by the Liberia National Police (LNP) spokesperson, Moses Carter, on September 29, 2023, it was revealed that this investigative team has been tasked with expeditiously examining the situation and delivering its findings in the coming days.
Moses Carter, LNP spokesperson, indicated that the Joint Security Media Relations Team is set to provide an initial update on the Foya incident on September 30, 2023. In the press release, the Joint Security issued a firm plea to supporters of rival political parties, urging them to abstain from engaging in violence not only during the electoral process but also afterward. They underscored the significance of adhering to the Farmington Declaration, a commitment to fostering peaceful elections signed by all political parties.
