Monrovia, Liberia- Former Finance Minister David Farhat is urging Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., the incoming president, not to make any promises to Liberians when he takes office that may heighten their expectations and aspirations for his rule as president.
Farhat claims that because Liberia faces so many obstacles, President-elect Boakai ought to order everyone to work together to build the nation and encourage advancements that will put it on track with other nations in the subregion.
Although President-elect Boakai’s prior expertise in administration, Mr. David Farhat taught that there’s no funds kept at the Central Bank of Liberia for developmental purposes and that he shouldn’t guarantee Liberians what he cannot accomplish for them.
His claim coincides with high hopes among Liberians following allegations of widespread corruption by the Weah-Taylor regime, which led to the nation’s weak economy.
The National Elections Commission formally certified President-elect Josep Nyuma Boakai Sr. and his Voice President-elect Jeremiah Kpan Koung on Wednesday for their victories in the presidential runoff election on the fourteenth of November 2023.
As required by Liberia’s organic law, they ran on the Unity Party platform and defeated the incumbent, George Manneh Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change. It is anticipated that they would take office on January 22, 2024, and govern the country for six years.
