Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory W.O. Coleman pushed back hard Tuesday against allegations of compromise, saying the LNP “will not be intimidated, distracted, or deterred” in the ongoing US$336 million cocaine investigation.
Speaking amid public questions about alleged missteps and his own involvement, Coleman said criminal networks “thrive where fear, silence, and institutional weakness prevail. They will not prevail in Liberia again.” He stressed that the police’s loyalty is to law, not to personalities or politics.
“Our commitment is not to personalities, political interests, or public applause. It is to the Constitution, the laws of Liberia, and the safety and security of the Liberian people,” Coleman stated. “No individual, network, or organization is above the law, and every case will be pursued based on credible evidence, due process, and lawful authority.”
The Police Chief pledged to continue disrupting narcotics networks, protecting communities, and working with national and international partners to bring suspects to court. He promised the force will remain “professional, impartial, and accountable, but we will also remain resolute.”
Coleman said the fight against organized crime will be won “through disciplined investigation, courageous leadership, public cooperation, and the consistent application of the law” — not through “intimidation, speculation, or political noise.”
“We will not retreat. We will not be distracted. We will continue to work firmly, lawfully, and without fear,” he concluded.
The statement comes as the LNP, LDEA, and international partners investigate two major drug busts — one at RIA in June and another in VOA Community in July — and probe allegations of high-level protection for traffickers.
