Monrovia, Liberia – Moses Y. Kollie, the defeated CDC senatorial candidate in Lofa County, has officially rejected the announced results and called for a recount in nine specific polling places out of the 424 polling locations in the county.
In a statement, Kollie expressed his gratitude to his friends, supporters, and sympathizers for their unwavering support during the October 10, 2023 Elections. He raised concerns about the 421-vote margin that placed him as the major rival to the declared winner, Momo Cyrus, who secured the senatorial seat with 37,621 votes, leaving Kollie in second place with 37,200 votes.
Kollie and his team conducted a thorough review of the results, during which they discovered empirical evidence suggesting unfair treatment. They pointed out significant discrepancies, electoral irregularities, and miscalculations that had a negative impact on the announced results.
In response to their findings, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has formally submitted a complaint to the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, requesting an immediate investigation and full recount of the senatorial candidate’s votes in the nine specific polling places with significant challenges that compromised their victory.
Kollie called on everyone to maintain a peaceful and law-abiding attitude while the legal processes unfold, and he emphasized the goal of achieving President George Weah’s second-term victory in the upcoming second round of voting in early November 2023.
