By Monrovia, Liberia – Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the Standard Bearer of the opposition Unity Party, has rallied the people of Liberia, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to make incumbent President George Weah a one-term president in the runoff of the 2023 Presidential Elections. The former Vice President commended Liberians for their dedication and patience as they exercised their constitutional rights during the October 10 General and Presidential Elections, highlighting the determination of the electorate, including pregnant women and the elderly, to make their voices heard.
Ambassador Boakai asserted that he had observed Liberians’ resolve to democratically remove President Weah from the presidency. He emphasized that the choice in this election reflects a decision to vote for competence over incompetence, accountability over the misappropriation of state resources, and progress and development over stagnation and mediocrity. In response to the election results announced by the National Elections Commission, Boakai stated that President Weah and the CDC have received a clear warning from the Liberian people, signifying a fierce competition in the second round of the elections. Boakai expressed gratitude for the broad-based support and made a plea for unity, promising to form a government of inclusion that values competence and love for the country over loyalty to a party, tribe, or region.
Ambassador Boakai recognized the challenges faced during the election process, including weather conditions, distance, and intimidation, but hailed the determination of the Liberian people to bring about change and rebuild the nation. He affirmed the need to fix the broken governance systems, combat corruption, and unite the nation, promising to address the issue of substance abuse and ensure a brighter future for Liberia’s youth. Boakai encouraged all Liberians to join the “Rescue Team” in the quest to create a better future for the country, embracing diversity and competence as the core values of his government.
