MDR Senator Jeremiah Koung Applauds Nimba County’s Support Amid Claims of Electoral Fraud

Monrovia, Liberia – Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung, the Vice Standard Bearer of the opposition Unity Party, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the citizens of Nimba County for their resounding support in the recently concluded October 10 General and Presidential Elections.

During a local radio show appearance in the county on October 18, 2023, Senator Koung expressed immense pride in the people of Nimba for standing by him and Amb Joseph Boakai throughout the election. The senator suggested that without the electoral irregularities he pinpointed in the southeast, particularly in Maryland County, the Unity Party might have clinched victory in the first ballot.

Senator Koung raised concerns about the electoral process, indicating that there are currently four ballot boxes under quarantine in Maryland County, as the number of votes cast exceeded the registered voters at four specific polling places. He emphasized that the six southeastern counties, including Sinoe, Maryland, River Gee, Grand Kru, Grand Gedeh, and River Cess, should not have outperformed Nimba County in terms of votes. The senator vowed to lead efforts to prevent any recurrence of electoral fraud in Maryland County if a second round of elections is deemed necessary.

Senator Jeremiah Koung remained optimistic about the Unity Party’s chances of success, even though the presence of nineteen political parties from the opposition had an impact on their vote share during the election.
