Deception: Ruling Party CDC Chairman Criticizes Unity Party’s Warlord Endorsements While Ignoring CDC’s Own Support from Ex-General Roland Duo and Others

Monrovia, Liberia – The Chairman of Liberia’s Ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah Morlu, has taken a strong stance against the opposition candidate Joseph Boakai’s presidential campaign, decrying the endorsement received by Boakai from warlords. Speaking at the CDC Headquarters, Chairman Morlu expressed his concerns about the potential risks to the nation’s future when individuals with such endorsements seek state power not for reform but for vengeance. While Chairman Morlu did not specify the particular group of warlords endorsing the Unity Party, he characterized them as “wicked people” and claimed that their endorsement was aimed at jeopardizing Liberia’s future.

Notably, Chairman Morlu’s criticism of the Unity Party’s endorsement from ex-fighters comes at a time when the CDC itself has garnered support from ex-General Roland Duo and others. This selective acknowledgment of endorsements by ex-military figures highlights the intensity of the political climate in Liberia, as both major parties jockey for support in the upcoming presidential runoff. The role of former military figures in Liberian politics remains a contentious issue, and it is likely to be a point of continued debate as the election approaches.

As the presidential runoff election draws nearer, the exchanges between the CDC and the Unity Party intensify, with both parties attempting to sway public opinion and secure crucial endorsements. The scrutiny of the source and nature of endorsements is poised to remain a central theme in this high-stakes political contest.
