Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) says it is critically looking at the recent Supreme Court ruling concerning the leadership dispute within the House of Representatives and will soon issue an official statement.
In a release dated April 25, the LNBA said it is dissecting the Court’s April 23 opinion regarding the Amended Bill of Information filed by House Speaker Hon. Fonati Koffa. The Bar also acknowledged a subsequent statement made by President Joseph Nyema Boakai on April 24, addressing the situation.
While tensions continue to swirl over the House impasse, the LNBA emphasized that it will not respond hastily. “The LNBA will not be impulsively reactive in responding to the prevailing situation absent a thorough legal analysis,” the statement noted.
The association, which prides itself on its independence, reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and serving the best interests of the Liberian state. Atty. Alpha Daffae Senkpeni, Chairman of the LNBA’s Media and Publicity Committee, signed the release.
The LNBA has not provided a specific timeline for when it will make its position public but assured that its conclusions will be based on a “full and thorough analysis” of the legal issues at stake.
The leadership crisis at the House of Representatives has drawn national attention, with legal experts, political figures, and civil society groups weighing in on the Supreme Court’s ruling and its implications for governance and constitutional order.
