Monrovia, Liberia – Tensions flared at the National Transit Authority (NTA) as aggrieved workers staged a protest on Monday, expressing frustration over what they perceive as the institution’s failure to address their concerns. The protesters, in substantial numbers, gathered outside NTA facilities, effectively blocking main entry points and preventing buses belonging to Senator Saah Joseph from leaving the compound.
Workers’ grievances include overdue salaries, inadequate transportation arrangements, and a perceived lack of cooperation from the Managing Director, Habi McCauley. They emphasized their appeal to President George Weah to take decisive action against McCauley, asserting that his leadership has been marred by numerous disputes with the workforce.
In response, NTA Managing Director Habi McCauley vehemently denied the allegations leveled against him by the protesting workers, dismissing their claims as baseless and aimed at tarnishing his reputation. As tensions mount within the NTA, the government faces increasing pressure to intervene and address the simmering discontent among the institution’s employees.
