Representative Steve Tequah of Rivercess County Accuses Boakai- Koung Administration of “reckless” Spending on Road Rehabilitation

RiverCess county District # 2 Representative Steve Tequah has recently taken aim at the Boakai-Koung administration, accusing them of reckless spending on road rehabilitation projects.

Addressing the press at his Capitol Building office on Wednesday June, 12 2024 , Tequah blasted the administration for reportedly spending a whopping Twenty Two million United States Dollars on the rehabilitation of major roads across the country.

Tequah criticized the administration for what he described as a lack of transparency and accountability in their handling of public funds.

He raised concerns about the exorbitant cost of the road rehabilitation projects, questioning why such a large sum of money was being spent on roads when there are other pressing needs in the country.

“The Boakai-Koung administration must be held accountable for their reckless spending on road projects,” Tequah stated. “Twenty Two million dollars is an outrageous amount of money to spend on road rehabilitation, especially when there are so many other important areas that could benefit from that funding.”

Tequah also raised questions about the quality of the road rehabilitation work being done, suggesting that the high cost of the projects may not be justified by the results. He called for a full investigation into the spending practices of the administration and urged the government to prioritize more pressing needs such as healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation.

The RiverCess county District # 2 Representative’s criticism of the administration comes at a time when the country is facing a number of challenges, including a struggling economy, high levels of unemployment, and a lack of basic services for many citizens. Tequah’s remarks have reignited debate about the government’s priorities and its commitment to serving the needs of the people.

In response to Tequah’s criticism, government spokespersons have defended the road rehabilitation projects as crucial for improving infrastructure and promoting economic development.

They have emphasized the importance of investing in infrastructure to attract investment, create jobs, and enhance the overall quality of life for Liberians.

Despite the government’s defense of its spending practices, Tequah remains steadfast in his criticism, calling for greater transparency and accountability in the use of public funds. He has vowed to continue to speak out on behalf of his constituents and hold the government accountable for its actions.

The debate over the administration’s spending on road rehabilitation projects is likely to continue as the country grapples with the ongoing challenges of poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment.

Tequah’s outspoken criticism serves as a reminder of the importance of fiscal responsibility and accountability in governance.

At the same time, the Rivercess County Lawmaker has termed the actions by the Ministry of Finance to hold benefits of Lawmakers as a plot geared towards undermining House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa’s leadership.

Tequah argued that the move by the Finance Ministry is deliberate and feels said action is only intended to insight lawmakers against the Speaker.
