“A Fearless Voice Falls Silent”: Unity Party Mourns Death of Ambassador-Designate George G. Solo

Monrovia, Liberia — The Unity Party says it is mourning one of its own.Ambassador-Designate to Italy George G. Solo died Saturday after a mid-air medical emergency, cutting short a diplomatic career the party hailed as one of “professionalism and patriotic zeal.”

In a condolence statement signed by National Assistant Secretary General for Press Lansana Pawenneh Fofana, the party said it was “profoundly saddened” by the loss. Solo was en route to the United States when he fell ill aboard Royal Air Maroc Flight AT200 from Casablanca to New York. “Despite medical efforts from physicians on board, he could not be resuscitated,” the statement said.

Solo was a key ally in the Unity Party’s 2023 “Rescue Mission” campaign, praised for his “profound commitment” to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership. Boakai tapped him in August 2025 to represent Liberia in Italy — a post the party says marked his rise “from a partisan leader to a diplomatic representative of the state.”

The party remembered him as “a fearless voice in our national discourse and a man of deep convictions… a statesman who put Liberia’s interests above all else.”

Extending “deepest condolences to the Solo family, the people of Grand Gedeh County, and all those touched by his lifelong service,” the Unity Party urged partisans and well-wishers to “keep his family in their prayers during this difficult period of mourning.”

“Rest well Hon. George G. Solo,” the statement closed, quoting Ecclesiastes 3:1: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
