Monrovia, Liberia– In a remarkable display of academic prowess, senior students who sat the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) have achieved a staggering success rate, with 46,448 out of 49,000 candidates emerging victorious. This announcement was made by Dale Gbotoe, a representative from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia office, during a press briefing held on Tuesday at the WAEC Liberia office in Congo Town. Gbotoe pointed out that the 2023 WASSCE results exhibited significant improvement compared to the outcomes of the previous two years, 2021 and 2022.
Breaking down the statistics, Gbotoe revealed that 720 private schools registered 35,253 candidates, while 167 public schools presented 14,589 candidates, totaling 49,832 registered candidates. Of these, 49,383 students sat for the regional exams, and an impressive 46,448 successfully passed. Notably, Gbotoe mentioned that the results for 1,799 candidates are currently being withheld due to alleged involvement in examination malpractices.
Additionally, the announcement showcased the outstanding achievements of individual students. Desire Saygarn, a female student from Ford Madden Christian Academy in Montserrado County, secured the top position as the best-performing student in the 2023 WASSCE Exams. Priscilla Cooper, also from the same school, was honored as the second-best ranking student, while Langford Zayzay of Dominion Christian Fellowship claimed the third-place spot. These exceptional academic achievements reflect the dedication and commitment of Liberia’s future leaders to their educational pursuits.
