Monrovia, Liberia — In the wake of growing concerns over police brutality and unprofessionalism, an Officer of the Liberia National Police has killed 19yr Old Manoba Mohammed, a resident of Brewerville in a shooting incident.
At the Brewerville Banjor Gas Station on Saturday night, August 3, 2024, a horrific tragedy took place. Inspector Fayiah shot the victim, Manoba Mohammed, after a brief verbal altercation.
Inspector Fayiah, who is not authorized to carry a firearm According to the LNP IG Gregory O. W. Coleman, illegally possessed and used the weapon against a civilian who was attempting to escape. IG Coleman questioned how Inspector Fayiah obtained the weapon and emphasized that the incident did not occur during the delivery of law enforcement services.
“This incident did not happen as a result of law enforcement duties, and this officer is not a firearm carrier with the Liberia National Police.” When Inspector Fayiah met the victim, he wasn’t on the clock. He drove away, turned around, and shot the evading victim in the rear after exchanging words, according to IG Coleman. Inspector Fayiah ran away after the shooting, but the police caught up to him fast, searched him, took the gun, and arrested him.
A more thorough inquiry into the weapon’s entry into the nation is warranted after IG Coleman pointed out that it is unlawful and not registered with the government.
He emphasized that many illicit firearms had entered Liberia in recent years without the police being aware of them. The LNP is still committed to finding these weapons, looking into their unauthorized entry, and dealing with the matter, no matter who is implicated.
Mohammed, the victim, died from a bullet wound he received while eluding the policeman, according to IG Coleman’s confirmation. He declared, “We have just determined the cause of death, which is obviously a bullet wound.”
Col. Coleman dissociated the LNP from Inspector Fayiah’s actions and reiterated the police force’s dedication to maintaining professional standards in the protection of life and property. He also assured the public of an unbiased and prompt investigation.
Condemning the unlawful acts by Inspector David S. Fayiah, IG Coleman also issued a strong warning against any illegal demonstrations that would violate the rights of other citizens and alerted them to possible protests that certain people in Monrovia were planning. Col. Coleman gave his word that nonviolent protestors would receive complete protection from the police, even though he did not mention any names.
