Monrovia, Liberia – The Judiciary branch of government has reportedly turndown a US$20 million financial allotment for 2024, claiming that it is unfair and immoral to provide the Executive and Legislature larger allocations than the Judiciary, which would reduce the Judiciary to nothing.
The US$20 million budgetary allocation for the 2024 budget has been sharply rejected by the Liberian judiciary, as exemplified by the Supreme Court.
The Judiciary, through it’s Public Affairs department, released a statement on Wednesday stating that, in spite of multiple meetings with the president and legislative leadership, the two equally powerful branches decided to give the Judiciary the lowest budget—2.8% of the national budget, compared to 13.84% for the Legislature and 83.86% for the Executive.
The Judiciary said that it is reminding the other two branches once more that they should be recognized as equals and not as subordinates to any of the other branches.
