Liberia Issues Interpol Alert for Former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah

Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah announced that the government has issued an Interpol Alert for former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah due to his failure to appear in court regarding allegations against former government officials.

Minister Piah revealed during a broadcast on the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) on August 12, 2024, that Tweah had dismissed the indictment process as a witch-hunt on social media and vowed to challenge it. Despite these claims, Tweah has yet to present himself to the court.

Piah criticized Tweah for choosing to post on social media rather than addressing the court, suggesting that this delay in seeking justice is seen as an implicit admission of guilt. He argued that avoiding the court while publicly disputing the process undermines the legal system.

The Information Minister emphasized that accountability and transparency are critical, urging citizens to support these values rather than resist them. He asserted that the government’s actions are based on audit reports from the General Auditing Commission and Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, not on personal vendettas.

The government remains firm in its commitment to holding public officials accountable and ensuring integrity in public service.
