HOR Cites Ministers of State for Presidential Affairs & Finance, Development Planning Over Boakai, Koung’s Travel

Capitol Hill, Monrovia–The Plenary of the House of Representatives took the decision Thursday following a concern raised by Montserrado County District#10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah regarding the recent travelled made by President Joseph N Boakai and Jeremiah Kpan Koung in Ghana and Nigeria respectively.

The District 10 lawmaker through a communication addressed to the Speaker requested his colleagues to allow the two Ministers appear before Plenary and give details on how the President and Vice President travelled to Ghana and Nigeria and the purpose of their visit.

“Mr. Speaker and Distinguished Colleagues, we have cried on the issues of corruption (Accountability and Transparency) which are amongst issues that led to the failure of the Weah-led Government, especially for the failure of its re-election. When sample of those things start to come out, it is our responsibility to set check-points so that they cannot go out of hand before trying to arrest the situation”, Rep Kolubah’s communication reads.

Honorable Kolubah informed his colleagues that the President of Liberia wrote this body informing them about his two-working days visit to Ghana; and the Vice President also went to Nigeria and Casablanca which are also working visits.

He thinks such trips require the government’s sponsorship and if it is not the government sponsored trips, they need to know as the people deputies.

Accordingly, the lawmaker said it is a concern when it was stated that the Vice President travel on a private jet plane.

Following the reading of the communication, a motion was proffered to have the mentioned Ministers invited next week Tuesday to provide all the necessary information on the President and the Vice President recent visit.
