Government’s free Tuition Policy marks with contradiction as UL students calls for improve system.

Paynesville, Monrovia Liberia– Cross section of students from the University of Liberia Fendell campus have stress the need for improve learning system despite the free tuition policy instituted by Liberia’s president George Weah.

The students who are currently benefiting the policy from the Weah’s administration said the idea of having tuition free University at the State Run University is helpful but at the same time hindering the effectiveness of their learning process.

Some of whom are senior students mentioned that facilities and learning materials where always available to them prior to the president’s pronouncement.

They maintained that although the University was charging per credit hour before the president’s good Will but “learning materials where mush accessable then now.”

Having their opinion on the President’s Free Tuition Policy was Alvin Bassy a junior student of the Agriculture Department who recommended the need for strong sustainability plan for the University before one can initiate such a plan.

This is a state Run University that doesn’t operates without fund, how do you expect the school to run when there’s no money?” he stated.

Also speaking was Environmental Science student Odecious Mulbah who disclosed that the President’s Free education policy came with lot of contradiction leaving the institution with lot of challenges including poor learning system.

” For example, since the pronouncement from the President, there have been numerous of strike actions from staffers, poor learning facilities amongst others” he asserted.

Moving forward, Solomon Dukuly a freshman students who added that the decision from the Weah’s administration to make Public Universities and colleges free is helpful to them but needs lot of improvement so as to enable the school function without interference.

He mentioned the Lock of chairs and others learning equipments especially in the school Laboratory, something he said needs to be addressed.

“The pronouncement should not just be about politics but something that must benefit us.” he said.

On October 24, 2019, President Weah took a significant step towards making college education accessible to all by introducing a groundbreaking Tuition-Free Policy for students in public universities.

The intent of the step was to create the equal and accessable learning opportunities for low income students in Liberia.
