Monrovia – G.W. Gibson High School, a public school under the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS), has been accused of increasing tuition fees in violation of government’s approved fee structure.
An information sheet obtained by this paper shows that the school has set LD 10,650 as annual tuition for senior high students — more than three times the official amount.
The sheet also indicates that the school has introduced additional activities requiring students to pay over LD 10,000, pushing total charges far above the approved rate.
On September 11, 2026, MCSS Superintendent Madam Augurie E. Stevens announced that senior high students in all MCSS public schools will pay LD 3,250 as tuition for the academic year.
The reported increment at G.W. Gibson has raised concerns among parents, who are now questioning government’s enforcement of the regulated tuition policy for public schools.
Parents say the high fees could deny students access to classes if they are unable to pay.
Efforts to get comments from the administration of G.W. Gibson High School were unsuccessful up to press time.
Meanwhile, parents are calling on the Ministry of Education and the MCSS administration to intervene.
