Paynesville, Liberia – The Government of Liberia, through the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), has granted Starlink a one-year provisional license aimed at allowing the LTA to study the impact of the company’s services on existing licenses in the country.

LTA Acting Chair Abdullah Kamara stated that the one-year period will enable the authority to establish quality of service and other customer protection requirements for satellite-based telecommunications services.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Sinkor Palace on Thursday, October 10, 2024, aims to assist in providing redundant internet access across the country.

Commissioner Kamara noted that customers will be able to purchase Starlink kits directly through the Starlink website or through LTA-licensed internet service providers permitted to resell the company’s products.

Starlink is expected to launch its services in the country within the next few weeks, pledging to provide high-speed packages for both residential and business customers, as well as for moving vehicles, ships, planes, and cars.

The LTA is continuing discussions with Starlink regarding their commercial prices to ensure affordability. These prices will be confirmed before Starlink’s formal launch in a few weeks, including the cost of the company kit and the monthly flat rate for data.
