Capitol Hill, Monrovia — Police in Monrovia fired teargas today to disperse hundreds of students from the Monrovia Government Senior High School who staged a protest over their teachers’ seven-month unpaid salaries.

The students, who took to the streets across the city, later blocked the Capitol bypass, causing heavy traffic for commuters. During the protest, they threatened to disrupt private school learning tomorrow if their concerns were not addressed.

Efforts by police to persuade the students to clear the road failed, prompting the use of force to restore order. The protest highlights growing tension in the education sector as the government struggles to meet salary obligations.
