Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has announced the suspension of two officers following an internal investigation into a case of police impropriety involving the unlawful entry and opening of a vehicle parked at the Capitol Building.
The incident, which occurred on the morning of Tuesday, February 18, 2025, involved a gray Nissan Jeep without license plates parked under the canopy of the Representative’s Wing of the Capitol. The LNP’s Professional Standards Division (PSD) launched an investigation after Honorable Yekeh Y. Kolubah reported the disappearance of cash and valuables from the vehicle.
In a press release following the investigation, the LNP disclosed that Chief Inspector of Police (ID# 5396) has been suspended without pay for two months for unlawfully entering the vehicle, while Sergeant Sam C.F. Karbah (ID# 4248) received a one-month suspension without pay for unlawfully opening the vehicle.
According to Hon. Kolubah, missing items from the vehicle included US$25,000.00, 2,000,000.00 LRD, a computer, an iPhone, and jewelry valued at US$2,500.00.
The PSD has also recommended the following next steps:
If any direct link is established between the officers and the reported crime, they should be referred to the Crimes Services Division for further investigation.
Jack Traore, identified as the individual who allegedly drilled the driver’s door of the vehicle, should be invited for questioning.
An in-depth investigation of individuals seen in video footage related to the incident will be conducted to determine any connection to the missing items.
The Liberia National Police reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and upholding professional standards.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we continue to address these serious matters with due diligence,” said DCP Cecelia G. Clarke, LNP Spokesperson.
