Lectures at Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law go over year without Salary_College Dean Says

Monrovia, Liberia- Professors at the University of Liberia’s Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law have not received their salaries from the UL Administration for more than a year, according to Dr. Jallah Barbu, dean of the school. He describes the current circumstance as troubling.

The lack of salary and wages for teachers under the departing Weah-Taylor dictatorship has been described as sad and concerning by Dr. Jallah Barbu, dean of the University of Liberia’s Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law. This has been going on for more than a year.

Dr. Barbu said, during the commencement of the Liberia National Bar Association 2023 Convention in Ganta, Nimba County, that instructors at the university’s law school have not received their monthly salary for over a year without receiving an official complaint from the national government.

“Maintaining the peace post-election through adherence to the rule of law” was the focus of the LNBA event.

Professor Barbu emphasized that the state of affairs is concerning and demoralizing for respectable experts who keep devoting their time and effort to furthering knowledge, but the national government, via the Administration of the UL, led by Dr. Julius Sarwolo Nelson, has minimized their contributions.

However, the teacher pointed out that those instructors are still carrying out their responsibilities with integrity and producing their own educational resources regardless of the regrettable circumstances, in addition to not having been payed.

The administrator spoke during a gathering where approximately five hundred lawyers across Liberia including Judges, Associate Justices, Practicing Lawyers, Law students as well as UNDP amongst other partners. Had convened to celebrate their 2023 annual Convention.
