Lawmaker and Security Personnel Charged Over Alleged Assault on Clinic Staff – Legal Battle Unfolds

Gbarnga, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) Gbarnga Detachment has formally charged Bong County District #3 Representative Josiah Marvin and eight others for their alleged involvement in the assault on the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Gbonota Clinic in Senoyea District. The charges against the lawmaker include Criminal Facilitation, Criminal Solicitation, Criminal Conspiracy, and Physical Obstruction of Government Function under relevant sections of Liberia’s new Penal Law.

The police charged sheet further names individuals identified as C Tarwoe Walonfah, Hannah N. Kermue, Amanda Flomo, Alex M. Snowe, Willimena Willie, Justine Bedell, Jr. Togbah Matthew, and Junior Sackie. These individuals, acting as security personnel for Representative Marvin, face charges including Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Riot, Physical Obstruction of Government Function, Menacing, Theft of Property, Criminal Conspiracy, and Disorderly Conduct.

The charges stem from an incident where Representative Josiah Marvin allegedly ordered the assault on the Gbonota Clinic OIC, accusing the health worker of hosting a political meeting within the facility’s premises. This development has drawn attention to concerns about the alleged misuse of power by Rep. Marvin, who was re-elected in the recent October 10 polls.
