What should have been the happiest week of her life has become an unending nightmare for mother Tracy Nuahn, whose six-day-old son mysteriously disappeared from the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, in the early hours of Sunday, November 16, 2025. Speaking through tears, the young mother recounted the final moments she saw her baby and the troubling events that preceded his disappearance.
Tracy explained that she gave birth to her first child on Tuesday, November 11, at 3:45 a.m. The newborn initially struggled to breathe properly and was taken to the emergency ward for treatment. By Thursday, nurses informed her that the baby was doing better and might soon be discharged. But over the next days, strange signs began to emerge.
She recalled seeing a “strange paper” placed on her baby when she checked on him. When she attempted to read it, a nurse harshly scolded her for touching the item. Confused but trusting the staff, she breastfed her baby, returned him to his crib, and stepped out of the room.
Late Saturday night, she fed her baby again at around 2:40 a.m. and left him peacefully lying where the nurses had placed him. Like other mothers, she spent the night sleeping in a separate area from the infants, following the hospital’s arrangement.
Minutes later, around 2:55 a.m., Tracy said she encountered an unfamiliar woman wearing a hijab leaving the ward. When she asked where she was headed, the woman reportedly replied that she was going to buy baby diapers. Tracy proceeded to the ward—only to find her baby missing.
“My son was not on his bed. I asked the nurses, and they told me they had no knowledge,” she recounted. “I tried calling my mother-in-law, but the nurses told me not to call anyone. They said we should pray and keep searching.”
Confused, frightened, and desperate, Tracy searched the ward, hoping her baby had been moved or placed elsewhere for treatment. But he was nowhere to be found. The baby, her first child after months of anticipation and hardship, had vanished.
“I only need my child,” she sobbed. “That is all I want. They must bring my baby back.”
Tracy’s anguish has resonated across Zwedru, sparking public outrage and swelling crowds at the hospital demanding answers.
Hours after the disappearance, the Ministry of Health confirmed that an unidentified woman wearing a hijab unlawfully entered the infant ward around 2:00 a.m. and reportedly escaped with the baby. Authorities have launched an active investigation, urging the public to report any suspicious movement involving a newborn.
As police and health officials search for answers, Tracy waits—heartbroken, exhausted, and pleading for the safe return of her newborn.
“This was my first child,” she whispered. “I just want to hold him again.”
