“He For She Liberia” Through its national coordinator, Mr. Tamba Johnson has called legislative members of Lofa County to turn down the sum of US$30,000 allocated for legislative engagement in each of their constituents.
He said that because Liberians are struggling financially, legislators, especially those from Lofa, should not accept this kind of funding. He emphasized that in order to show leadership, Lofa Legislative Caucus members should introduce a bill that would lower the funding from US$30,000 to US$10,000.
Johnson asserted that the national budget has allocated US$30,000 for each legislator’s legislative participation over the years, but the Liberians have not witnessed the results of this money.
He went on to say that members of the 55th Legislature must reject the funding and see to it that it is lowered to a minimal level if the president’s declaration that there will be no business as usual becomes a reality.
During a press conference held in Paynesville over the weekend, Johnson revealed that a number of Liberians survive on less than US$1.50 per day, and therefore, US$30,000 should not be allocated to a single legislator.
