According to a local media update from the western region, the county has in less than a month experienced at least seven deaths, all resulting from the intake of illicit drug substances.
Among the seven deaths were six males and a lone female, raising health concerns among the county authorities.
After returning from a break to visit constituents, Senator Varpilah spoke to members of the Liberian Senate, emphasizing the pressing need for the national government to take comprehensive measures to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country.
She claims that as a result of the worsening circumstances, multiple young people have been killed, and the county’s population is still declining. At the same time, Senator Dabah Varpilah warned that if the county’s drug problem is not quickly addressed, it could lead to the destruction of more people, especially the youth.
