Monrovia, Liberia — The General Services Agency (GSA) has officially launched a major renovation initiative targeting the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex located in Congo Town. The project includes external painting and other key maintenance works, marking the first comprehensive facelift of the structure since its construction.
Funded by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, the initiative is being spearheaded by the Public Maintenance Building Department of the GSA, which boasts a workforce of over 155 technicians and support staff.
GSA Director General Mr. Galakpa W. Kortimai announced the project during a ceremony held on the grounds of the complex. He stated that the agency is committed to painting the external areas and multipurpose sections of the entire building. However, he noted that each ministry housed within the complex will be responsible for painting its respective internal office spaces.
According to Mr. Kortimai, the project goes beyond painting. “In addition to the painting, we will address carpentry needs, conduct minor electrical work, and carry out major replacements in damaged areas of the compound,” he explained. The total cost of the project is estimated at US$400,000.
The GSA boss also revealed plans to upgrade the plumbing system. He added that the renovation is expected to last for two months, with a completion deadline set for June 30, 2025.
During the renovation period, some activities, particularly those held in the complex’s theaters will be temporarily suspended to allow smooth execution of the work.
“We remain committed to restoring and maintaining all public buildings across the country,” said Mr. Kortimai. “This is just the beginning.”
The launch event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Labour, and other government agencies, all of whom pledged their support to the successful execution of the project.
